Interesting Notes:[/u] --In one of the rarest of occruances, Bret Hart came into the submission match as a face and left as a heel, while Austin came in as a heel and left as a face. Ken Shamrock was the Special Guest Referee for the match. --Before the main event, Bret Hart would come out and go on a tirade about how he should be Champion. Sid responded to him by powerbombing him. He'd later interfere to cost Sid the match. --Shawn Michaels, who was injured, provided commentary for the main event. --Rocky Johnson helped Rocky Maivia after he was attacked after his match with the Sultan. --The Honky Tonk Man provided commentary for the IC Title match as he was on the search for someone else to become the Greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. --Austin/Bret Hart took the submission match to a whole new level by pretty much using the fact that "the match could only end by submission" as a way to bring it to a No DQ level. --WrestleMania 13 was the first one since the inaugural Mania to not have a Roman Numeral for the number. --There were no celebrities or aired National Anthem. --This was Bret Hart's final WrestleMania appearance, he had appeared at every WrestleMania from 2-13, a record of 12 consecutive WrestleManias that still stands today.

Interesting Notes:[/u] --Austin's title win (his very first) at this WrestleMania is known as the official start of the Attitude Era. --Mike Tyson was a member of DX going into the event, but turned on Michaels at the end of it when he was special enforcer. --Shawn Michaels had a real life back injury, but chose to have the match anyway against doctor's orders. This would be Michaels last match until SummerSlam 2002. --L.O.D. had disbanded on RAW in February, however became a surprise 15th entrant into the tag team battle royal. --Ken Shamrock originally defeated the Rock, but due to a refusal to let go of his ankle lock submission, as well as his physcial assault onto the referees, the decision was reversed. --The next night on RAW Triple H said that DX was moving on without HBK and that he was now the leader. He then introduced X-Pac who had jumped ship from WCW. --The Tag Titles were made vacant as Jack and Charlie put the NAO into a dumpster backstage, not the one designated at ringside. The two teams had a rematchin a cage on RAW. At the end, HHH and X-Pac came out and aided the Outlaws to victory, and they joined them in DX with Chyna. --Soon after WrestleMania, the WWE changed the look of both the World and Intercontinental Championships. --During the buildup to WrestleMania XIV, Austin threw Rock's IC Title into the river. A fan found the gold and called McMahon telling him he'd give it back to him for $25,000. Vince knew it'd be cheaper to make a new one and told the fan to keep it. --Pete Rose ripped on the Boston crowd as he was the guest ring announcer for the Kane/Taker match. Kane then came out and tombstoned him, leading to a 3 year tradition. --The DX band, headed by Chris Warren, played the DX song for HHH and HBK's matches. The lead singer also sang "America The Beautiful" to kick off the show. --In an interview with Gennifer Flowers on this broadcast, the Rock first used his catch phrase, "If you smell what The Rock is cooking." --This was the first time in WrestleMania history that the WWE European Championship and Light Heavyweight Championship was defended. --Due to winning the battle royal, L.O.D. 2000 became #1 contenders for the Tag Titles at Unforgiven in April. The Outlaws eventually retained. --Other celebrities include Marvin Hagler and Vinny Pazienza.

DX then promoed saying they were reunited, however Triple H would soon turn on X-Pac in a shocking twist leading to a heel turn as he and Chyna helped Shane retain the European Championship and joined the Corporation. --This marked the first time that the Hardcore Title was defended at WrestleMania. --Test and D'Lo won a 19 man Battle Royal to become Tag Partners. They weren't able to get on the same page and thus they lost the match. --The Brawl For All Match was not scripted. Butterbeans knocked out Bart in just 35 seconds. --Ryan Shamrock accidentally tripped Goldust costing him the IC Title. He then dumped her and went off with the Blue Meanie. --After Taker def. Bossman, the Brood came down from the rafters and they all tied a noose around the Bossman. Paul Bearer raised the cage, and the Bossman was hanged. --This was Owen Hart's final WrestleMania as he would die tragically on May 23rd of '99 at the Over the Edge PPV. --Big Show sent Foley to the hospital by chokeslamming him through two chairs. McMahon then yelled at him and Big Show attacked him and McMahon had Show arrested. McMahon tried to be ref, but Commissioner Shawn Michaels refused to let him. Foley eventually came running down in the end and made the final count. --Boyz II Men performed "America the Beautiful." --Prior to his match, Kane was attacked by the San Diego Chicken. He ripped off the mask to reveal it being Pete Rose, and Kane chokeslammed him for the second WrestleMania in a row. --Jim Ross had missed the year due to his illness, but starting with his announcing of WrestleMania XV's main event, he returned to calling the play by play. --During the broadcast, Michael Cole accidentally said that "New WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin will be on the Home Shopping Network after the PPV" leaking out the fact that Austin was going to win the title. --Gorilla Monsoon appeared at this WrestleMania as a judge in the Brawl for All. --Austin became the first man to ever win the WWE Title at two consecutive WrestleManias. --Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett defended the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XV - making Jarrett the third different championship partner that Owen had at WrestleMania events. At WrestleMania XI, Owen and Yokozuna won the World Tag Team Championship, and at WrestleMania 13, Owen and the British Bulldog held the titles. --The day after WrestleMania XV, Goldust defeated the Road Dogg for the Intercontinental Championship, and just two days after WrestleMania XV, Kane and X-Pac defeated Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart for the World Tag Team Championship. --Celebrities at this event included Vinny Pazienza, Isaac Hayes, Big Pun, Kevin Rooney, and Chuck Wepner.

The ending saw Mr. McMahon turn on The Rock. --This is the only WrestleMania to end with a fatal four way match. --Pete Rose came out and tried to attack Kane, however he got tombstoned for the third year in a row and then the Stink Face from Rikishi. --Though Kurt Angle was never pinned, he lost both of the titles he held going into this event. --Val Venis was the guest referee for the Cat Fight. --All three teams in the Triangle Ladder Match were given standing ovations that night and the next night on RAW. --Chris Jericho would lose his newly won European Championship to Eddie Guerrero the next night on RAW due to Chyna turning on him. --To promote the event, WWE had WrestleMania All Day Long which for an additional 15 dollars fans could watch memorable WrestleMania matches all day long. People saw this as too much wrestling, and the WWE never offered it again. --Lillian Garcia performed "The Star Spangled Banner." --The 24/7 rule for the Hardcore Title was put on temporary hold for the week leading up to Mania. --This was the first WrestleMania to not be accompanied by either a Roman Numeral or the number of the event, as they went with the year instead. --Triple H became the first heel to ever emerge from WrestleMania as WWE Champion. --Hardcore Holly won the Hardcore Championship for the second consecutive WrestleMania. --This marked the irst time Edge and Christian won the Tag Team Championships. --At this event, the Intercontinental Title changed hands for the first time in 8 WrestleManias. The last time it changed hands was when Bret Hart beat Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VIII. --The Hardcore Title changed hands a record 11 times at WrestleMania 2000. --The nine men who fought in the Tag match, and the two fall match, all made their WrestleMania debuts. --The celebrities at this event included Ice T, Dustin Diamond, Michael Clark Duncan, Martin Short, and French Stuart.

The reason became known once Vince McMahon came out and handed Austin a steel chair to hit The Rock with. Austin hit him multiple times and turned heel "selling his soul for the Championship." --Trish Stratus turned on McMahon in his Street Fight. Linda McMahon was thought to be heavily sedated, but actually woke up to low blow the chairman. --This was the second time in three years in which The Rock and Stone Cold main evented WrestleMania against each other. Austin won both bouts. They were the only two since Bret/Yoko to face off in multiple main events at 'Mania. --With Limp Bizkit's "My Way" this was the first time WWE went to main stream music for Mania. --Each team in the TLC match had their own third party. Hardys had Lita, Dudleys had Spike, and Edge and Christian had Rhyno. Rhyno aided them to victory. This was the second WrestleMania in a row that E and C won the Tag Titles in a ladder match against the same two teams. --Sgt. Slaughter attacked the Iron Sheik after the battle royal to spark the rivalry he had with him years ago up again. --Mean Gene and Bobby Heenan provided commentary for the Battle Royal. --The Rock main evented his third consecutive WrestleMania. He lost all three matches. --Stone Cold improved his WrestleMania record to 3-0, all main events and all WWE Title victories. --Five titles changed hands at WrestleMania, the most ever at any 'Mania. --Though Vince McMahon came up with the concept of WrestleMania, he made his in ring Mania debut at this one. --The Iron Sheik won his first WrestleMania match in 15 years. --The celebrities at this WrestleMania were Moises Alou, Jeff Bagwell, and Motorhead who performed Triple H's theme song live.

Ric Flair in a No Disqualification Match. --Edge def. Booker T. --Stone Cold Steve Austin def. Scott Hall w/ Kevin Nash. --Billy & Chuck def. The Hardy Boyz, the APA and the Dudleys w/ Stacey Keibler to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships. --The Rock def. Hulk Hogan in an Icon vs. Icon Match. --Jazz def. Match of the Night: Rock vs. Hogan without question. Such an amazing moment. Interesting NOtes:[/u] --The crowd cheered Hogan mostly throughout the match despite his attempts to be a heel, and eventually he shook the Rock's hand when Rock pinned him. The NwO attacked him and then Rock made the save and the two posed for the crowd. --This was only the second WrestleMania to take place outside of America. The last one was WrestleMania VI which took place in the exact same venue. --This was the last ever event to be held underneath the WWF name. --Just like they did with WrestleMania VI, the WWE set a new attendance record for the SkyDome. --This was one of the first times the Undertaker acknowledged his own undefeated WrestleMania streak. --Steve Austin would eventually walk out on the WWE and not return until No Way Out '03. Though there were many reasons Austin left, he also sited that he felt he was misused in this WrestleMania being stuck in a feud with Scott Hall. --Saliva opened up WrestleMania by singing "Superstar." They later performed the Dudley's theme song as they came out. --Drowning Pool performed "Tearing Away" and Triple H's theme song as he came to the ring. --This was Hulk Hogan's first WrestleMania match in 9 years as his last one was at WrestleMania IX. --Hogan's last WrestleMania pinfall loss took place 12 years earlier at the exact same venue whern he lost to the Warrior at WrestleMania VI. --Many fans left the arena after the Hogan/Rock match as they felt that was the true main event. --To promote WrestleMania X-8, several superstars appeared on the Weakest Link game show. --WrestleMania X8 was Diamond Dallas Page's second WrestleMania in the SkyDome. DDP was also a part of WrestleMania VI when he drove the car that took The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine to the ring. --For the second year in a row, William Regal opened WrestleMania with a Intercontinental Championship match. He lost both. --The Hardcore Title match with Maven and Goldust was a no contest due to interference. Throughout the night, we saw different champions as Spike Dudley, Hurricane, Mighty Molly, Maven and lastly Christian all scored pinfalls to become Hardcore Champion during the night. Maven came in with the belt and ended up walking out with it. --This WrestleMania took place on St. Patrick's Day.

Rey Mysterio to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. --The Undertaker def. A-Train and the Big Show in a handicap match. --Trish Stratus def. Victoria w/ Steven Richards and Jazz in a Triple Threat Match to win the WWE Women's Championship. --Team Angle def. Los Guererros and Chris Benoit and Rhyno to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships in a Triangle Tag Match. --Shawn Michaels def. Chris Jericho. --Stacy Keibler, Torrie Wilson and the Miller Light Cat Fight girls went to a no contest in a Cat Fight. --Triple H w/ Ric Flair def. Booker T to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. --Hulk Hogan def. Vince McMahon in a Street Fight. --The Rock def. Stone Cold Steve Austin. --Brock Lesnar def. Kurt Angle to win the WWE Championship. Match of the Night: Hard call here as you could make a case for Jericho/HBK, Lesnar/Angle, Vince/Hogan, and even the opener. However for significance and just how good it was at telling a story, match of the night goes to Austin vs. Rock III. Interesting Notes:[/u] --This was the first WrestleMania under the WWE name. --Stone Cold had to go to the hospital the night before WrestleMania due to heart problems, but chose to compete at Mania anyway. It was his last ever WWE match. --After Rock beat Austin he whispered a bunch of things to him and told him he loved him. It was the third time they faced off at WrestleMania, and the only time the Rock won. --The Rock would announce after Backlash '03 that he was taking a hiatus from professional wrestling to pursue his acting career. --Kurt Angle had surgery on his neck the day after WrestleMania. --Brock Lesnar attempted a shooting star press during the main event, but he botched it and landed on his neck. He was able to finish the match but had a severe concussion. --During the Hogan/McMahon match, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper made a surprise return and attacked Hogan, the very man he faced in a tag match at WrestleMania I. --Nathan Jones was supposed to team up with the Undertaker, but due to lack of faith in him the WWE had him attacked in the back in storyline. Jones would come out and help Taker win. --Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels is Chris Jericho's favorite match. --A documentary film entitled "The Mania of WrestleMania" was made during this WrestleMania and released the following year. It was WWE Films first release. --This was the first WrestleMania to feature two brands. --Ashanti performed "America the Beautiful" --Rey Mysterio made his WrestleMania debut and wore a Dare Devil costume. --Limp Bizkit performed Taker's theme and the WrestleMania theme song "Crack Addict." --Jericho went to hug HBK after their match and HBK embraced him. Jericho then low blowed him to a chorus of boos. --The Rock and Austin hugged each other in the locker room and emotionally thanked each other, knowing their careers were winding down. --It took 3 Rock Bottoms for the Rock to beat Austin. --Though they were rivals in storyline, Angle and Lesnar hugged after their match. --WrestleMania XIX took place exactly 6 years ago to the day of this posting. --This was the first time that the World Heavyweight Championship and WWE Championship were defended on the same night at a WrestleMania. --This was the first ever time that the WWE Tag Titles were defended at WrestleMania. --Hulk Hogan picked up his first WrestleMania win since 1993 when he defeated Yokozuna at WrestleMania IX.

Molly Holly in a Hair vs. Title Match to retain the WWE Women's Championship. --Eddie Guerrero def. Kurt Angle to retain the WWE Championship. --The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer def. Kane. --Chris Benoit def. Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a Triple Threat Match to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Match of the Night: the Main Event with Angle/Eddie as a close second. Interesting Notes:[/u] --After Benoit won the match, Eddie Guerrero came out and the two celebrated holding up their titles in memorable fashion as confetti rained down upon them. --Madison Square Garden holds the record for hosting most WrestleManias by hosting three with I, X, and XX. New York itself hosted four as WrestleMania 2 was held at the Nassau Coliseum. --This PPV was the highest grossing event that the WWE ever produced in Madison Square Garden. --Vince McMahon is inducted in the MSG hall of fame for countless sell out events. --This WrestleMania they brought back the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, headlined by Jesse "The Body" Ventura and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. --Cena vs. Big Show marked the first time the U.S. Title was defended in WrestleMania history. --Trish Stratus turned her back on Chris Jericho and went off with Christian. --This was the last WrestleMania appearance by The Rock. --Stone Cold Steve Austin special guest refereed the Lesnar vs. Goldberg match and ended up stunning both of them. Word leaked out that both men were leaving the company, so the crowd chanted "You Sold Out" and "Boring" throughout the match and only really seemed to be into Stone Cold. --Vince McMahon walked out before the second tag title match to thank the fans for making WrestleMania what it is. --Eddie Guerrero untied his wrestling boot and when Angle went to slap on the Ankle Lock, Eddie's boot popped off and Angle ran after him only to get rolled into a small package and lose. It is touted as one of the most clever endings of all time. --Paul Bearer shockingly returned as Taker's corner man and Kane didn't believe his brother was still alive. He went to touch his face to see for sure and Taker hit him. Druids led Taker to the ring. --Kane became the only man to ever lose to the Undertaker twice at WrestleMania, also losing to him at WrestleMania XIV. --The two fatal four way tag matches were contested under the Outlaw Rule, a rule that states that two partners can't be legal at the same time, as the New Age Outlaws pinned each other in 1998 to win a match like that. --During the event, Jesse Ventura interviewed Donald Trump. --As a result of the title vs. hair stipulation, Molly had her head shaved clean and it even went on while Angle made his entrance for the WWE Title match. --The WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2004 was introduced during WrestleMania XX. The inductees were: Superstar Billy Graham, Junkyard Dog, Sgt. Slaughter, Big John Studd, Tito Santana, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, Harley race, Don Muraco, Jesse "the Body" Ventura and Pete Rose. --WrestleMania XX was only the fifth time the WWE Champion retained the title at WrestleMania. --When HHH tapped out to Benoit's crossface, it marked the first time ever that the WrestleMania main event ended in submission.

Randy Orton. --Trish Stratus def. Christy Hemme w/ Lita to retain the WWE Women's Championship. --Kurt Angle def. Shawn Michaels. --Akebono def. Big Show in a Sumo Match. --John Cena def. John Bradshaw Layfield to win the WWE Championship. --Batista def. Triple H w/ Ric Flair to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Match of the Night: Angle vs. Shawn Michaels as it was a clinic. Taker/Orton and MITB are close seconds. Interesting Notes:[/u] --Batista defected from Evolution and decided to face HHH for the World Title instead of going to SD after winning the Royal Rumble. --John Cena ended a nine month title reign for JBL. --This was the first WrestleMania to emanate from the Staples Center, but fifth to emanate from Southern California. WrestleManias 2, VII, XII, and 2000 all emanated from SoCal. --Tickets sold out in less than one minute shattering a record for both WWE ticket sales and Staples Center ticket sales. --This WrestleMania broke a Staples Center attendance record. --To build up the Hollywood aspect of this Mania, the WWE aired vignettes starring WWE wrestlers spoofing Hollywood movies. --The WWE Hall of Flame Class the night before was appropriately headlined by "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan. --This was the first WrestleMania to have a Money in the Bank ladder match, the storylined idea of Chris Jericho. Edge coined the term "Mr. Money in the Bank." --Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio were WWE Tag Team Champions heading into this WrestleMania, marking the first time in history the WWE Tag Champions squared off one on one at WrestleMania. --Eugene came to the ring after the MITB match to talk about his memories of Mania. Muhammad Hassan then came out and attacked him but Hulk Hogan followed and beat him up, posing for the crowd one final time at WrestleMania. --By beating Randy Orton, The Undertaker's Mania streak went up to 13-0. --Piper's Pit came back for the first time at Mania since WrestleMania V and Stone Cold was the guest. Carlito came out and Austin ended up stunnering both him and Piper. --This WrestleMania had the only Sumo Match in WWE history. --As JBL came to the ring, thousands of 100 dollar bills fell from the rafers with JBL's face on them. --Motorhead played Triple H's theme as he came out live. --This was the first time ever Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels squared off one on one. --Celebrity guests in attendance for WrestleMania 21 included David Arquette, Motörhead, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, The Black Eyed Peas, Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins, Anthony Kiedis from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ice Cube, Carmen Electra, Sylvester Stallone, Marg Helgenberger, Matt Groening, and Will Sasso.

Interesting Notes:[/u] --Unlike WrestleMania 21, the crowd was completely turned against John Cena. --Rey Mysterio completed his life long journey by winning the World Heavyweight Championship, a match in which he dedicated to his fallen friend Eddie Guerrero. --Though Mickey James was a heel, the crowd completely pulled for her to win. --Edge and Foley put on what many tout to be one of the best hardcore matches of all time, ending with Foley finally getting his WrestleMania moment when Edge speared him through a flaming table. --The Hall of Fame ceremony the night before was headlined by Bret Hart and Eddie Guerrero. Though all of the HOFers came out to wave to the crowd at WrestleMania, Bret Hart was uncomfortable in participating. --Michelle Williams sang "America the Beautiful." --Ric Flair got legitimately injured in the MITB match, but he returned to the match later on. --Carlito approached Mr. McMahon backstage one night to bring back the MITB match. --Before his match with Boogeyman, Booker T was met backstage by a group of freaks. --Taker's victory over Mark Henry brought his WrestleMania streak to 14-0. --Rey Mysterio wore an Aztec costume and was played to the ring live by P.O.D. --WrestleMania 22 was only the first WrestleMania to have a 2 on 1 handicap match. --The Big Show won his first ever WrestleMania match at WrestleMania 22, and he hasn't won one since.
